Baseball Game Preview: Odem Owls vs. George West Longhorns

The Odem Owls are taking a road trip to square off against the George West Longhorns at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Odem is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

While Odem's victory against Mathis wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Owls won by a run and slipped past the Pirates 5-4. The game was the first time the Owls have beaten the Pirates on their field since April 23, 2021.

John Harrington spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Chaise Ford and Gio Beltran did most of the damage at the plate: Ford went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Beltran scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Beltran has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Gonzalez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, George West came up short against West Oso on Friday and fell 6-1. The Longhorns have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Dylan Thomisee made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

Odem's win bumped their record up to 14-7. As for George West, they now have a losing record of 15-16-2.

Odem skirted past George West 6-4 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Owls since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
