Basketball Recap: Mountain Vista Makes It 14 in a Row at Home

On Wednesday, Mountain Vista faced Regis Jesuit in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Mountain Vista Golden Eagles escaped with a win against the Regis Jesuit Raiders by the margin of a single free throw, 56-55. The win was nothing new for the Golden Eagles as they're now sitting on eight straight.

Leading Mountain Vista to victory were Cal Baskind and Oliver Junker. Baskind went 6-for-12 on his way to 16 points, while Junker almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. Baskind is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 47% in the last 11 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brandon Matchem iii, who posted 11 points.

Mountain Vista was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Regis Jesuit only posted six assists.

Regis Jesuit lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Eric Fiedler, who earned 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That's the most steals he has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Dickinson, who put up 16 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Mountain Vista's victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-4. As for Regis Jesuit, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-5.

Mountain Vista wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 66-58 defeat against ThunderRidge on the 14th. As for Regis Jesuit, they have also already played their next contest, an 82-74 loss against Valor Christian on the 14th.
