Baseball Recap: Pontotoc's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Pontotoc had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Munford on Friday. The Pontotoc Warriors were the clear victor by a 10-3 margin over the Munford Cougars. Considering the Warriors have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Miller Finn made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Finn was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, Malachi Witcher was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Corbyn Clayton was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Pontotoc kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Munford only managed four hits.

The win (which was Pontotoc's sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Munford, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-2.

Pontotoc and Munford should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in their respective state rankings. Pontotoc (ranked tenth) will meet Amory (ranked 70th) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Similarly, Munford will challenge Sparkman at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday up 65 places (2 vs. 67).
