Baseball Recap: Edgewood Warriors vs. Jefferson Wildcats
Edgewood had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the Jefferson Wildcats by a score of 6-1 on Friday.
Alex Sperduto made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
In other pitching news, Austin Fell looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Caleb Johnson was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Zane Naylor was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Edgewood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jefferson only posted an OBP of .316.
Looking ahead, Edgewood will venture away from home to challenge St. John at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Jefferson, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Miller City at 5:00 p.m. on April 7.
