Soccer Game Preview: Washington vs. Yankton

Washington is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Yankton is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Warriors will welcome the Bucks/Gazelles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Washington will be strutting in after a win while Yankton will be coming in after a loss.

Washington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Dakota's top teams: Brookings, who was ranked 16th at the time (Washington was ranked sixth). The Warriors walked away with a 4-2 victory over the Bobcats on Tuesday. Four seems to be a good number for Washington as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of goals in their previous game.

Meanwhile, after a string of eight wins, Yankton's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 3-1 to Aberdeen Central. Yankton fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against Aberdeen Central since Saturday.

Yankton's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3-1. As for Washington, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3-1.

Washington was able to grind out a solid win over Yankton when the teams last played back in September of 2024, winning 4-2. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Bucks/Gazelles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
