Preview: Cotulla Cowboys vs. Lytle Pirates
Cotulla is 1-9 against Lytle since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Cotulla Cowboys will head out on the road to square off against the Lytle Pirates at 6:15 p.m. Cotulla is hoping to put an end to a 12-game streak of away losses.
Cotulla scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They blew past Dilley, posting a 45-9 win at home. The win was just what Cotulla needed coming off of a 62-31 defeat in their prior contest.
Meanwhile, Lytle had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Natalia as Lytle made off with a 68-44 victory. Lytle has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 21 points or more this season.
Calyssa Sevier continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds. Sevier is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Arianna Garcia, who scored eight points along with 14 rebounds.
Cotulla's victory bumped their record up to 3-17. As for Lytle, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season.
Cotulla took a serious blow against Lytle in their previous meeting on January 9th, falling 63-32. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sevier, who almost dropped a triple-double on 21 points, nine rebounds, and 14 steals.
