Baseball Recap: Birdville Triumphs

With a playoff win on the line, Birdville rose to the challenge on Friday. They came out on top against the Aledo Bearcats by a score of 2-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hawks have posted since April 4th.

Not much got past Gabe Winans, who gave up just six hits and racked up six Ks to keep Aledo off the board. Winans has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Manny Gonzales, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Owens, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Birdville's victory bumped their record up to 11-20. As for Aledo, they moved to 22-7 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Birdville will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bearcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
