Football Recap: Murrieta Valley Finds Playoff Glory Versus Corona Del Mar + How To Watch

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Murrieta Valley had no problem doing just that on Friday. Everything went their way against the Corona del Mar Sea Kings as they made off with a 35-14 win. The result was nothing new for the Nighthawks, who have now won four matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.

Murrieta Valley found their leader in sophomore Ty Isaia, who threw for 150 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 passes, and also rushed for 70 yards and one score. Isaia's passing game has become a key predictor of the Nighthawks' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 2-3 otherwise. Murrieta Valley's leading receiver Kayden Borden was Isaia's top target yet again, picking up 108 receiving yards and three TDs.

Murrieta Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 308 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 190 rushing yards in three consecutive games.

Murrieta Valley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Mekhi Criss led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Murrieta Valley got some further help from Ian Gurrola: he picked up two sacks and made five total tackles.

Although Corona del Mar took the loss, they still got scores from Brady Annett and Garrett James.

Murrieta Valley's victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Corona del Mar, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-2.

Coming up, Murrieta Valley will head out on the road to challenge Rancho Cucamonga at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Nighthawks surely won't give up without a fight. Corona del Mar does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
