Basketball Game Preview: Malad Dragons vs. West Side Pirates

Malad hasn't had much luck against West Side recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Malad Dragons will host the West Side Pirates at 7:30 p.m. West Side took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Malad, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Malad turned things around against Aberdeen on Saturday. They came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 58-50.

Meanwhile, West Side faced Declo in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. West Side fell to Declo 57-52. The Pirates have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

West Side's defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-5. As for Malad, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 6-12.

Malad won a game that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, slipping by West Side 63-62. Will Malad repeat their success, or does West Side have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
