Preview: Waterford Wildcats vs. Denair Coyotes
Waterford is 1-9 against Denair since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Waterford Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Denair Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Waterford has not done well against Gustine recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Waterford claimed a resounding 53-24 win over Gustine at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Waterford has posted since December 15, 2023.
Waterford's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ethan Real, who scored eight points, and Christian Gayle, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Denair beat Mariposa County 49-44 on Friday.
Denair's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Koby Cervantes, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds. Cervantes hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Valente Rosales, who scored 13 points along with five steals.
Waterford's record now sits at 9-11. Denair's record is now 8-11.
Waterford came up short against Denair in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 54-47. Can Waterford avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
