Baseball Recap: Madeira Takes a Loss

Madeira fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Reading on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 2-1. The MUSTANGS/AMAZONS were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Blue Devils earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Evan Cissell spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

This is the second loss in a row for Madeira and nudges their season record down to 15-7. As for Reading, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Madeira will challenge Clark Montessori at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Reading, they will venture away from home to face off against Princeton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
