Baseball Recap: Coal Ridge's Winning Streak Snapped at 21 Games

Coal Ridge dropped their record down to 25-3-1 on Saturday, which also ended the team's 21-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the University Bulldogs by a score of 3-2. The Titans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 3-0.

Coal Ridge saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddox Olivas, who went 1-for-5 with one triple and two RBI.

As for University, they are on a roll lately: they've won 18 of their last 19 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.

On University's side, Joel Ramirez made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Ramirez has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-6 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Damian Alvarez, who went 4-for-6 with one stolen base and one run. Medardo Abrego was another key player, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Coal Ridge beat University by a score of 3-2 later that day.
