Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Ignace). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Pickford Panthers an 18-0 shutout on Thursday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Saints as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Kaylen Starkey was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Starkey was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, St. Ignace got a massive performance out of Alice Winberg, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Winberg a new career-high. Katie Halberg was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
St. Ignace always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
St. Ignace's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Pickford, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-4.
