Baseball Game Preview: Southwest SD Raiders vs. Mount Miguel Matadors

The Southwest SD Raiders will face off against the Mount Miguel Matadors at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mount Miguel took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Southwest SD, who comes in off a win.

Southwest SD is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Liberty Charter as Southwest SD made off with a 17-5 victory.

Sebestian Martinez made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Martinez was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

In other pitching news, Dario Zepeda looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched.

Back at the plate, Aaron Diaz and Johan Colmenares did most of the damage at the plate: Diaz went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Colmenares scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those four runs gave Colmenares a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Miguel Rivera, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Meanwhile, Mount Miguel suffered their biggest loss since April 26, 2024 on Tuesday. They came up short against High Tech SD, falling 8-1.

Mount Miguel saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braylon Cardwell, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI.

Southwest SD was able to grind out a solid win over Mount Miguel when the teams last played back in March of 2023, winning 7-3. Will Southwest SD repeat their success, or does Mount Miguel have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
