Baseball Recap: Chaparral Finds Playoff Glory Versus Erie

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Chaparral had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They came out on top against the Erie Tigers by a score of 9-6. The Wolverines have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Tigers, too.

The team relied heavily on Cal Tiner, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Josh McWilliams, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Chaparral was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Erie only posted a batting average of .286.

Chaparral's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-10. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Erie, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 16-8.

Coming up, Chaparral will face off against Arvada West at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their 15th straight win, something the Wolverines surely won't give up without a fight. Erie does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
