Basketball Recap: Ashland Blue Jays vs. Bucklin Red Aces
Ashland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Bucklin Red Aces 58-30. The Blue Jays were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-7.
Ashland lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Biannca Ceniceros, who posted seven points along with seven boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Harris, who scored five points and seven rebounds.
Leading Bucklin to victory were Emmy Kirk and Karlee Evans. Kirk went 8-for-17 to rack up 23 points in addition to five assists and five boards, while Evans went 8-for-12 en route to 22 points along with six rebounds and three steals. What's more, Evans also posted a 67% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in March of 2024. Ashland's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Bucklin, the win (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 15-3.
Ashland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 51-46 victory against Spearville on the 14th. As for Bucklin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 50-32 win against Macksville on the 14th.
