Baseball Recap: Glenbrook South Takes a Loss

Glenbrook South had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 6-8 to make it four. They came up short against the Maine South Hawks, falling 12-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Titans have suffered against the Hawks since April 21, 2022.

Glenbrook South got a good showing from Jack Valentinas, who tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Valentinas has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Trey Ryno was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

As for Maine South, they now have a winning record of 8-7. That looming 12-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

On Maine South's side, they got a great performance from Connor Griffin as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. What's more, Griffin posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Luka Stojakovic was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nate Cera, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Glenbrook South will head out to challenge Prospect at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Maine South, they will venture away from home to take on Brother Rice at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Crusaders will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight.
