Basketball Recap: Edmond Memorial Snags 20th Victory in Last 21 Games

With a playoff win on the line, Edmond Memorial rose to the challenge on Friday. Everything went their way against the Choctaw Yellowjackets as they made off with a 55-35 win. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 games by 20 points or more this season.

Edmond Memorial was led to victory by Janiyah Williams and Avery Hjelmstad. Williams went 6-for-9 en route to 14 points, while Hjelmstad posted 18 points and five rebounds. Hjelmstad's morning made it 14 games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Maddy Kirk was another key player, shooting 56% from the field to rack up 11 points.

Edmond Memorial has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 20 of their last 21 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.5 points over those games. Choctaw's loss dropped their record down to 13-11.

Coming up, Edmond Memorial will face off against Broken Arrow at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Broken Arrow will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something Edmond Memorial surely won't give up without a fight. Choctaw does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
