Hanover is 0-9 against Biglerville since April of 2015 but things could change on Wednesday. The Nighthawks will be playing at home against the Canners at 4:15 p.m. Hanover has given up an average of 16.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Hanover couldn't beat Fairfield on Monday even though they stacked four runs on them in the second inning. The Nighthawks lost 22-4 to the Knights. The Nighthawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Hanover saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elizabeth Valentine, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That double was Valentine's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Biglerville came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 15-3 victory. Considering the Canners have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Sydney McCleaf spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 13 Ks. Those 13 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Biglerville got a massive performance out of Kierney Weigle, who went 3-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and one double. Those four runs gave Weigle a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Paige Slaybaugh, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Biglerville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.
Biglerville pushed their record up to 11-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Hanover, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.
Hanover's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's matchup. The Nighthawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Biglerville, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Hanover continue to outrun the ball?
Hanover suffered a grim 21-2 defeat to Biglerville in their previous matchup on April 9th. Will the Nighthawks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
