Basketball Preview: Valley Vikings vs. Eaton Reds

Valley is 0-10 against the Reds since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The two teams will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Valley can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They took down Wellington 47-29.

Valley's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Peyton Savolt, who scored 17 points along with six assists and five rebounds, and Nevaeh Jimenez, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Savolt has scored at least a third of Valley's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christina Maestas, who scored seven points.

Meanwhile, Eaton entered their tilt with the Huskies with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Eaton enjoyed a cozy 69-53 victory over the Huskies on Friday.

Eaton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tayla Wiedeman, who almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wiedeman has scored all season. Kara Sidwell was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Valley's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-10. As for Eaton, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Valley have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Eaton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Valley was taken down by the Reds 61-28 when the teams last played back in January. Will Valley have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
