Softball Game Preview: Marian Catholic vs. Weatherly

Marian Catholic has gone a perfect 10-0 against Weatherly recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Marian Catholic will head out on the road to take on Weatherly at 4:30 p.m. Marian Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Marian Catholic turned things around against Nativity BVM on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over the Green Wave. The high-scoring effort was just what Marian Catholic needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Emily Upanavage made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Malina Letcher was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hailey Treskolasky, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Marian Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .741. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Weatherly was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-10 heartbreaker at the hands of Shenandoah Valley. Even if Weatherly couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Marian Catholic's record is now 4-6. As for Weatherly, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.

Marian Catholic took their victory against Weatherly when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 13-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for Marian Catholic since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
