Softball Recap: Alton Redbirds vs. Belleville West Maroons
Alton extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 5-18 in the process. They lost 12-2 to the Belleville West Maroons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Maroons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-2 back in April.
Alton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabby Terrell, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
As for Belleville West, they pushed their record up to 12-13 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.
On Belleville West's side, they got a massive performance out of Daijah Jackson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Caleigh Dashner, who went 2-for-3 with four runs and three RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Alton will challenge Granite City at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Belleville West, they will take on Mater Dei at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Maroons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
