The Lakeland Hawks will face off against the Timberlake Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Lakeland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.
Lakeland barely beat Sandpoint the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hawks put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 13-3 win on Thursday. 13 seems to be a good number for the Hawks as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Kiersten Drake was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played. Raygen Dutton was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
Lakeland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Timberlake had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lumberjacks, sneaking past 4-2.
Shae Jones was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. Jones was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jesi Kitchin, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That stolen base was her first of the season.
Timberlake pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Lakeland, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Lakeland's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's matchup. The Hawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Timberlake, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Lakeland continue to outrun the ball?
Lakeland came out on top in a nail-biter against Timberlake in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
