Baseball Recap: Middletown Mustangs vs. St. Helena Saints

Middletown extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 4-14-1 in the process. They came up short against the St. Helena Saints, falling 11-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Saints this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-0 back in March.

Middletown saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jon Hawkins, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Hawkins is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Austin Davis also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

As for St. Helena, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Considering they have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On St. Helena's side, Julian Earls was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Henry Ray, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Middletown is set to take on their familiar foe Upper Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, St. Helena will square off against rival Fort Bragg at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Saints 3.1, the Timberwolves 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
