Softball Recap: Canton South Takes a Loss

Canton South was the 9-5 winner over Dalton when they last played one another back in May of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Wildcats fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 6-4 on Friday.

Hannah Valentine spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Peyton McKenzie was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Albert, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Canton South's defeat was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Dalton, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-3.

Looking ahead, Canton South will head out to square off against Washington at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Dalton, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Wadsworth at 11:00 a.m.
