2A/1A Western Highlands recap Oct. 3, 2012
Hendersonville extended the longest winning streak in 2A/1A Western Highlands this week by beating Avery County, 19-0. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Bearcats.
Owen took down Mountain Heritage 55-28 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Thomas Jefferson Academy's dynamic duo of McKinnon Martin and Efrim Borders proved tough for Madison to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Martin threw for 158 yards and one touchdown and Borders had 62 yards receiving. Will McCraw helped Thomas Jefferson Academy's passing attack out by catching three balls for 34 yards.
Grant Rivers provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Hendersonville beat the Vikings. He completed seven passes for 70 yards and also ran for 159 yards. Rivers' favorite target this week was Bryan Wright, who caught three passes for 40 yards.
Hendersonville's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bearcats feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Rivers has thrown for 1344 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while Dj Wilson has 19 catches for 540 yards. Desean Jackson leads the league in rushing with 914 yards.
Bj Laughter's team's Jackson needs only 86 yards against Mitchell next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Patriots take on the Warhorses. Madison is currently in second, while Owen is in fifth.
Kenny Ford's team led 2A/1A Western Highlands in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on the Cougars.
