Baseball Game Preview: Glendale Cardinals vs. Cortez Colts

The Glendale Cardinals will take on the Cortez Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Glendale will be strutting in after a win while Cortez will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Glendale turned things around against Westview on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Knights.

Michael Palomino made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Palomino was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Glendale is undefeated when Palomino posts two or more runs, but 3-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, David Ortiz was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jose Miranda, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Glendale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Cortez was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against Dysart, falling 23-0.

Cortez saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andre Shepard, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Cortez's loss dropped their record down to 4-19-1. As for Glendale, their victory bumped their record up to 7-10.

Glendale couldn't quite finish off Cortez in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
