Basketball Recap: Malcolm Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Win

Malcolm extended their winning streak to nine on Thursday, bumping them up to 19-1. They blew past the Nebraska City Pioneers 61-38. The Clippers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Leading Malcolm to victory were Payton Dolliver and Halle Dolliver. Payton went 9-for-18 on her way to 24 points along with seven assists and three steals, while Halle dropped a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Halle continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Blair Duzik was another key player, putting up three points and three steals.

Malcolm smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nebraska City only pulled down six.

As for Nebraska City, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 197th, while Malcolm is ranked seventh).

Despite the loss, Nebraska City saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lexi Brown posted eight points in addition to five boards and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for Brown. The team also got some help courtesy of Kensie Briley, who put up 11 points.

Looking ahead, Malcolm will venture away from home to square off against Aurora at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Nebraska City, they will host Gross Catholic at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Pioneers will need to watch out since the Cougars have now posted at least 55 points in their last three games.
