Basketball Recap: Oakcrest Extends Winning Streak to Two

Oakcrest won the last time they faced Evergreen Christian, and Kate Newsome did her part to make sure it happened again. The Oakcrest Chargers simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Evergreen Christian Eagles 64-30 thanks to Newsome, who dropped a double-double with 32 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Oakcrest's points.

Kiki Ricart also deserves some recognition as she pulled down her first boards of the season. Those two rebounds gave her a new career-high.

Despite the loss, Evergreen Christian still got an impressive performance from Camryn Bullet, who posted six points in addition to six boards and four steals. Bullet has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kayden Johnson, who had nine points and eight rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for Oakcrest and bumps their season record up to 11-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.0 points over those games. As for Evergreen Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 13 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 11-15 record this season.

Oakcrest has already played their next match (against Chelsea Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Evergreen Christian, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 75-25 loss against Virginia Academy on the 8th.
