Baseball Recap: University Academy Charter Generals vs. Bergen Charter
University Academy Charter extended their losing streak to eight on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-13 in the process. They lost 12-1 to Bergen Charter. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Bergen Charter this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 27-5 back in April.
As for Bergen Charter, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-10. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
For Bergen Charter's part, Kevin Montez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run over five innings pitched. Montez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
In other batting news, Justin Haroz was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with six stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Rogelio Salcedo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
Coming up, University Academy Charter will head out on the road to square off against Dickinson at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Bergen Charter, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Elmwood Park at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
