Baseball Game Preview: Church Point Bears vs. Ascension Episcopal

Church Point hasn't had much luck against Ascension Episcopal recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Church Point Bears will square off against Ascension Episcopal at 1:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Fans were treated to a Battle of the Bears on Thursday. Church Point was the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over Carencro. The victory was just business as usual for Church Point, who after three games remain undefeated this season.

Luke Venable looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Kohlden Dohmann was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Caiden B was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Ascension Episcopal gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Port Barre as Ascension Episcopal made off with a 10-1 win. Ascension Episcopal hasn't had any issues with Port Barre recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Church Point's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Ascension Episcopal, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.

Church Point suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Ascension Episcopal in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Church Point avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
