Softball Game Preview: Braddock Bulldogs vs. Varela Vipers

Braddock is 9-1 against Varela since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will welcome the Vipers at 3:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Varela will be up against a hot Braddock team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Miami Beach on Tuesday.

Emely Ramirez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Ramirez was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, Anais Gonzalez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, one triple, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Rosa, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Braddock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Varela got their first taste of in-conference action on Tuesday and they started things off strong. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Coral Park.

Varela is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Braddock, their win bumped their record up to 13-5.

Braddock took their victory against Varela in their previous meeting back in February by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Vipers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
