Basketball Game Preview: Plainview Pirates vs. Elkhorn Valley Falcons

Plainview hasn't had much luck against Elkhorn Valley recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Pirates just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Falcons at 4:30 p.m. Plainview will be strutting in after a victory while Elkhorn Valley will be coming in after a loss.

Plainview will bounce into Saturday's matchup after beating Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Pirates strolled past the Bears with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 54-40. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pirates.

Meanwhile, Elkhorn Valley faced Elgin/Pope John in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Falcons took a 49-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolfpack. The loss was the Falcons' first of the season.

Plainview will have to keep a close watch on Korbin Werner and Logan Black, a pair of players who had a big impact on Elkhorn Valley's prior game. Werner posted 12 points along with eight assists and five boards, while Black dropped a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Davis Rutjens, who scored six points.

Plainview's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Elkhorn Valley, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.
