Basketball Recap: Lone Star Takes a Loss

If Lone Star was feeling good fresh off their 55-23 takedown of Deer Trail last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lone Star Longhorns came up short against the Briggsdale Falcons on Friday, falling 65-42. The Longhorns haven't had much luck with the Falcons recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Despite the loss, Lone Star saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Peytyn Kuntz went 7 for 11 on her way to 17 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Kuntz a new career-high in points. Jade Kuntz was another key player, going 5 of 11 en route to 10 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Briggsdale's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayl Klem, who went 8 for 12 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals. Klem has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Claire Brown, who went 8 of 11 en route to 19 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Lone Star's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-4. As for Briggsdale, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.

Lone Star has already played their next game (against Front Range Baptist), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Briggsdale has already played their next matchup, a 56-26 win against Weldon Valley on the 18th.
