Idris Mouton and Orion Fernandez did some serious damage despite the final result: Mouton scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-1, while Fernandez scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in both of his plate appearances. Mouton is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Rodrigo Cabrera-Garcia also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Jackson-Reed waltzed into their game on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Mustangs get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by eight runs or more this season.
Simon Corbin tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Jackson Loomis was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Ben Shapiro, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Jackson-Reed kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Jackson-Reed pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.1 runs this season. As for Coolidge, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
Monday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Coolidge has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. However, it's not like Jackson-Reed struggles in that department as they've averaged .514. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Coolidge suffered a grim 26-0 defeat to Jackson-Reed in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Coolidge avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
