Recap: New Iberia Yellowjackets vs. Sam Houston Broncos
The New Iberia Yellowjackets waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They enjoyed a cozy 46-32 victory over Sam Houston. Given New Iberia's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 11th, while Sam Houston is ranked 109th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
New Iberia was led to victory by Otis Anderson and Wayne Randall-bashay. Anderson scored 13 points along with eight rebounds, while Randall-bashay scored 19 points. Kentravion Smith was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds and two steals.
New Iberia is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season. As for Sam Houston, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 16-13.
New Iberia will be playing at home against Southside at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. New Iberia is coming into the matchup with seven straight wins at home, meaning Southside will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. Sam Houston's road trip will continue as they head out to face Iowa at 6:45 p.m. on February 8th. Iowa knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 matchups -- so hopefully Sam Houston likes a good challenge.
