Baseball Recap: Stratford Spartans vs. White House-Heritage Patriots
Stratford had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 8-9 to make it five. They lost 17-0 to the White House-Heritage Patriots. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Wednesday.
As for White House-Heritage, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games.
For White House-Heritage's part, Cameron Jackson and Nolan Keathley were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Jackson struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Keathley pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. At the plate, Jackson went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Keathley went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Keathley has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, Justin Smith was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Cayden Waggoner, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs.
