On the hitting side, MT Breland was a standout: he scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Thornhill, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Columbia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Oak Grove entered their match against Purvis on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Oak Grove came up short against Purvis, falling 13-2. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Warriors couldn't push the score so high this time.
Oak Grove saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mac McDaniel, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Columbia pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.8 runs. As for Oak Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Columbia has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .464. However, it's not like Oak Grove struggles in that department as they've averaged .474. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
