Baseball Recap: Lexington Find Success

Lexington posted their closest win since February 22nd on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the East Lawrence Eagles 7-5. The Golden Bears haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Conner Scheetz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jake Lard, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Sam Newton also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Lexington's record is now 5-9. As for East Lawrence, they dropped their record down to 2-12 with the loss, which was their 20th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Lexington will square off against Shoals Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Shoals Christian has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.78 runs per game on average), something Lexington will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for East Lawrence, they will face off against East Limestone at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
