Baseball Recap: Stearns Extends Road Winning Streak to Five

Stearns had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They blew past the Greenville Lakers 15-4. The result was nothing new for the Minutemen, who have now won three games by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Wiley Ward made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Ward was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in both of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Cohen Raymond and Emerson Michaud did most of the damage at the plate: Raymond got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Michaud earned two RBI, three runs, and three stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Tyler Morris, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one run.

Stearns pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average this season. As for Greenville, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stearns will face off against Penobscot Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Minutemen are facing the Howlers at the right time seeing as the Howlers are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Greenville, they will take on Penquis Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
