Softball Recap: Grenada Comes Up Short

Grenada dropped to 10-4 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of Lake Cormorant by a score of 3-2. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Chargers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Mary Taylour Wilbourn was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 6.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

Wilbourn wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Lashley, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Lake Cormorant, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games.

On Lake Cormorant's side, Chatham Hamberlin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits.

Coming up, Grenada will take on Center Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Lake Cormorant, they have already played their next contest, a 6-4 loss against Starkville on the 21st.
