Basketball Game Preview: Pebble Hills Spartans vs. Coronado Thunderbirds

Pebble Hills has gone 9-1 against Coronado recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Pebble Hills Spartans will head out to challenge the Coronado Thunderbirds at 7:30 p.m. Pebble Hills is coming into the game hot, having won their last nine games.

Last Friday, Pebble Hills beat Franklin 69-57.

Pebble Hills' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Sapien, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine assists. Sapien is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Mia Delgado, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 boards.

Sapien wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Pebble Hills was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Franklin only racked up 11 assists.

Meanwhile, Coronado was beaten by Franklin 66-31 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Thunderbirds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 765th, while the Cougars are ranked 149th).

Pebble Hills' win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-6. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.8 points per game. As for Coronado, their loss dropped their record down to 8-18.

Everything came up roses for Pebble Hills against Coronado in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 72-31 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pebble Hills since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
