Baseball Game Preview: Citronelle Wildcats vs. Mobile Christian Leopards

The Citronelle Wildcats will take on the Mobile Christian Leopards at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Citronelle has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 13.

Citronelle came into this matchup off a tough ten-run defeat on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Flomaton by a score of 12-10 on Tuesday.

JJ Rivers was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5. He is becoming a predictor of Citronelle's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 6-15 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of James Reid, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.

Meanwhile, Mobile Christian won against Vigor on Monday with 16 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Leopards didn't even let the Wolves on the board, marking the Leopards' second-straight 16-0 shutout. The Leopards haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Bradyn James looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Mobile Christian let Labarron Holifield and Bryce Rivers run wild. Holifield went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Rivers scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those two doubles gave Holifield a new career-high. Christian Farni was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Mobile Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .741. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Mobile Christian's victory bumped their record up to 7-18. As for Citronelle, their loss dropped their record down to 9-16.

Citronelle might still be hurting after the 18-5 defeat they got from Mobile Christian in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
