Basketball Recap: Wilber-Clatonia Comes Up Short

Wilber-Clatonia fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Thayer Central on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 59-58 to the Thayer Central Titans. Even though they lost, the Wolverines' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.5 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Despite the loss, Wilber-Clatonia still got an impressive performance from Aiden Zajicek, who went 7 of 14 en route to 23 points and eight rebounds. That's the most points Zajicek has posted since back in December of 2023. Cooper Palmer was another key player, putting up ten points and eight boards.

It was another big night for Sam Souerdyke, who dropped a double-double on 37 points and 15 rebounds for Thayer Central. Souerdyke is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Lukas Kroll, who posted four points and seven assists.

Wilber-Clatonia's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-6. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.7 points per game. As for Thayer Central, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.

Wilber-Clatonia has already played their next game, a 53-43 win against Fairbury on the 16th. As for Thayer Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 48-45 victory against Sutton on the 17th.
