Recap: Laney Buccaneers vs. North Brunswick Scorpions
The Laney Buccaneers had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They took down North Brunswick 58-40. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Laney also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
It was another big night for Joshua Helms, who scored 29 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alan Studebaker, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why North Brunswick lost, one person who can't be blamed is Malakhi Daniels. Despite the final result, he scored 12 points along with two steals. Daniels is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Eric Mosley was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
North Brunswick struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Laney pushed their record up to 14-1 with that win, which was their 11th straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points per game. As for North Brunswick, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-4.
Laney won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against New Hanover at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. New Hanover is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for North Brunswick, they will head out on the road to take on South Brunswick at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Brunswick is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
