Basketball Recap: Richlands Takes a Loss

Richlands was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were dealt a 73-31 defeat at the hands of the Swansboro Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 410th, while the Pirates are ranked 21st).

Richlands' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jo?Nathan Kennon, who posted 11 points and five rebounds, and Joshuia Pierre, who scored six points. Pierre also put up a block, which washis first of the season.

Swansboro's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jermaine Cunningham, who went 5 for 10 en route to 10 points and four steals. Cunningham has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tayvion Tangiora, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 14 points along with seven boards and three blocks.

Richlands' defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Swansboro, they pushed their record up to 15-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richlands will square off against West Carteret at 8:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Swansboro, they will challenge Croatan at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
