Softball Recap: Rancho Mirage Rattlers vs. Cathedral City Lions
Rancho Mirage came into Wednesday's matchup having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Cathedral City Lions on Wednesday as they made off with a 13-3 victory. The Rattlers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Lions, too.
Anelisa Garcia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Rancho Mirage got a big performance out of Amiah Olvera, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Lilian Rocha, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Rancho Mirage always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cathedral City only posted an OBP of .261.
The win got Rancho Mirage back to even at 7-7. As for Cathedral City, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.
Coming up, Rancho Mirage will venture away from home to square off against Palm Desert at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Aztecs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.87 runs per game on average), something the Rattlers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Cathedral City, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Desert Hot Springs at 4:00 p.m.
