Football Game Preview: McDonough Rams vs. Huntingtown Hurricanes

The McDonough Rams will venture away from home to square off against the Huntingtown Hurricanes at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. McDonough will be strutting in after a win while Huntingtown will be coming in after a loss.

McDonough is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 22-21 victory over Northeast. Winning may never get old, but the Rams sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Meanwhile, Huntingtown faced Calvert in a battle between two of the state's top teams two weeks ago. The Hurricanes took a 13-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cavaliers. The Hurricanes' defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

McDonough will need to focus on slowing down Joshua Walter, one of several Huntingtown players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 70 receiving yards, and also rushed for 50 yards.

Even if they lost, Huntingtown's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Cameron Wilson, Spencer O'Callaghan, and Tyler Yuen, who each picked up one sack apiece. Wilson was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 14 total tackles.

Huntingtown's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for McDonough, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.

McDonough was dealt a bruising 49-9 defeat at the hands of Huntingtown in their previous meeting back in September. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Hurricanes' Dominic Hickman, who rushed for 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only seven carries, and also threw for 155 yards and two TDs on only 11 passes. Now that the Rams know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
