Basketball Game Preview: Serra Cavaliers vs. St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors

The Serra Cavaliers will head out to take on the St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Serra is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.

Serra came up short against Bishop Montgomery on Wednesday, falling 70-49. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 553rd, while the Knights are ranked 103rd).

Meanwhile, St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Wednesday as they fell 60-54 to St. Bernard. While the Warriors didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Vikings 14-10 in the first quarter.

Serra's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 11-7.

Serra came up short against St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 72-62. Can Serra avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
