Softball Recap: Independence Has No Trouble Against Charlotte Catholic

Independence barely beat Charlotte Catholic the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Independence Patriots put the hurt on the Charlotte Catholic Cougars with a sharp 13-1 victory on Friday. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by ten runs or more this season.

Maliyah Alexander made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Natalie Johnson and Michaela Williams did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Williams scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sydnee Platt, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Independence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Independence's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Charlotte Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Independence has already played their next game, a 5-0 victory against Cuthbertson on the 11th. As for Charlotte Catholic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 6-3 win against Providence Day on the 12th.
